Press Release Body: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and Chief of Dubai Municipality, the Environmental Center for Arab Towns, which is affiliated with the Arab Towns Organization and operates under the umbrella of the Director General of Dubai Municipality, announces the International Conference \"EnviroCities 2008\". This conference is co-organized with Harvard University, School of Public Health. The theme for this year will be \"Sources and Health Effects of Air Pollution: Knowledge to Practice\". The conference will be held, in November 11-13, 2008, at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This much needed event characterizes by the variety of the audience that includes decision makers, government officials, environmentalists, healthcare providers, and representatives from the industrial sector, occupational health and safety inspectors.
This conference is an important step in global efforts to protect our environment, and the future of the Arab cities, considering the mega development these cities are witnessing in the fields of economy, industrial and tourism, where many environmental challenges are arising and need to be taken into consideration by decision makers to achieve sustainable development.
In announcing this conference, Dr Radhiya Al Hashimi, Director General of the Environment Center for Arab Towns, stated that the main objective of this conference is to improve the environment and health status in our cities, also strengthening the role of local government in Arab Cities in drafting scenarios for reducing the environmental degradation on health. This Congress will focus on the latest methods used to control and reduce the level of air pollutants and its adverse effect on the health of the community. In addition, it will discuss the economical benefits gained by reducing the air pollutants. Dr. Al-Hashimi added, \"It is very important for the private and government sectors, and individuals, to realize and share the responsibilities in protecting the environment and taking the necessary actions to minimize the negative effects on health, and work together to formulate a sustainable life for this future and the generations to come\".
